Welcome to Sustainable Sanitation and Water Renewal Systems (SSWARS)

Sustainable Sanitation and Water Renewal Systems (SSWARS) is a non-profit making, Non-Governmental organization registered to operate in Uganda. SSWARS was certified and duly registered on 30th September 2005 by the National Board for Registration of NGOs in Uganda under the Non-Governmental Organizations Registration Statute, 1989.

SSWARS plans and implements people-cantered approaches to sustainable sanitation and water supply. The key objective is to develop, improve and sustain the status of the communities through use of sustainable and renewable systems with a prime objective of reducing risk of exposure to poor sanitation and water related diseases, and ultimately alleviate poverty amongst the communities. The overall goal is efficient sustainable utilization and recycling of resources.

Water and sanitation

SSWARS has been able to construct a Community Sanitation Centre in Mulago III, Kawempe Division, Kampala; Feb. 2007.This has greatly improved the hygiene, sanitation and also increased access of clean water to the residents. Many residents of Mulago use this facility and are happy and commend the works done by SSWARS.

Sanitation marketing

Sanitation marketing is an emerging field that applies social and commercial marketing approaches to scale up the supply and demand for improved sanitation facilities. SSWARS has been able to conduct sanitation marketing with the help of GIZ as one its development partner.

Community mobilization

SSWARS has been able to mobilize and sensitize masses about waste management and sanitation in Kampala slums through meetings and outreaches. SSWARS was also able to handover basic masonry tools to 20 masons trained by SSWARS
